HILLSBORO, TEXAS— Hill College President Dr. Pam Boehm recently released a phased re-opening plan for the college’s campuses and centers.

Currently, the college remains closed to the public. Many employees are still working remotely, with some employees on-campus as scheduled by their supervisor depending on their responsibilities. Assessments are taking place across all locations to evaluate the ability for students and employees to adequately maintain distance between one another and identify necessary modifications in preparation for re-opening. Summer classes are underway with most instruction taking place online. With strict procedures outlined and monitored, some classes are allowed on campus to complete hands-on training and labs that are difficult to execute remotely. Student services, including registration, advising, and testing among others, are offered online with limited services being scheduled on-site by appointment. A COVID-19 athletic task force has been formed to develop a focused plan for athletics’ return in the fall.

The next phase will take place Monday, July 13 when all employees are requested to return to their respective campus/center, as applicable. All facilities will remain closed to the public at this time. This date also marks the start of the second summer session, where online instruction will continue along with broadening implementations of hybrid models where in-person instruction is combined with online or distance education. Programs that opt for some in-person components will do so in strict compliance with all applicable state and federal guidelines.

Beginning July 27, the college plans to reopen for operations. During this phase, the residence halls and dining area will receive enhanced cleaning and operate under modified guidelines. Fall athletes will return to campus during this phase under the direction of the COVID-19 athletic task force plan.

On August 24, the fall semester begins with both academic and career pathway courses transitioning to more face-to-face instruction. Various modes of instruction will continue to be offered by the college, including online, on-campus, and hybrid models. The college will also be prepared to move to an online or distance learning format, if necessary.

Hill College developed this plan under the guidance of state and county data; federal, state and local guidelines; and with the primary goal of protecting students, employees, and visitors of the college. The college will be flexible and ready to adjust at any time. Employees and students should be prepared for return to online instruction and remote operations should an increase in local infections occur.
